A New Year- A New Skin Routine!
Integrated Skin Solutions wishes you a happy 2007! It is time to come up with “skin resolutions” for the New Year. Did you know that New Year’s resolutions were done as far back as Babylonian times (that’s over 4000 years ago!) We have come up with some “skin resolutions” for this year to make your life better and easier.
Simplify your life- simplify your morning facial regimen.
Start by throwing out all of that old stuff that is under your sink. You know, the moisturizer that broke you out, the cleanser from 1995, the anti-cellulite cream that just didn’t work. You won’t use this stuff, its taking up space, and it has probably degraded beyond usefulness. It’s 2007, and time to start anew! We will give you some recommendations on a simple facial regimen to get you looking your best for 2007. Your facial skin is very fragile-treat it with care!
Step 1-Cleanser
Let’s start with a cleanser. You should NOT be using a common bar soap. The pH of the skin is very sensitive, and a common bar soap may irritate the skin and plug pores. The ideal product can take off dirt and makeup, and leave your skin clean with no residue.
Persons with dry or normal skin should use a gentle product. Those with oily or acne-prone skin may want to use a cleanser containing salicylic acid or glycolic acid. For this type of skin, you should put the product on in the shower and leave it on for a few minutes before washing it off.
Step 2- Moisturizer
This is an individual preference, and usually takes a trial of a few products to find one that works for you. Generally, the older you get, the drier your skin becomes, and you may need a cream or heavier product. The trick is finding one that works without breaking you out or irritating your skin! During the winter months, a heavier product can also protect the skin against the wind and cold. Those with very oily skin may not need a moisturizer at all, unless the skin shows signs of dryness.
Step 3- Sunblock
This is probably THE most protective thing you can do to protect your skin. Yes, even in winter. Start the habit of putting on a sunblock now, as a great new year’s resolution. Your skin will thank you and you will prevent a lot of sun damage! We recommend at least a SPF of 30 when outdoors and a SPF 15 indoors. Remember ultraviolet A radiation can penetrate building and car windows.
Step 4- Makeup
Simplify, simplify, simplify. Get rid of all those old mascaras, lip liners, eye shadows that have been in the drawer since 1985 and get yourself a new set of uncontaminated makeup. This is a good time to change everything out since you’ll know that you bought the new stuff for the New Year! If you go to the cosmetics counter and try something new, ask the rep for a sample. It beats paying a lot of money for something that may not work so well when you try it at home.
That’s it- four simple steps. Nice and easy – and fast – as no one really has a lot of time to languish in the morning!
If you take an objective look at your face and identify problem areas, just call us. We can help! We can correct a lot of problems with wrinkles, scars, problem skin, or even take off moles that you are worried about. There are some prescription products that can help improve your skin. You may want to consider starting to use an antioxidant on your face, or consider a laser procedure to help repair previous damage.
We would also like to remind people that we can do a skin check—we offer screenings for skin cancer. If the lesion looks suspicious, or undergoes change, get it taken off. Call us for an appointment to check your skin. Be healthy in 2007!
