AUGUST NEWSLETTER
Come in from the sun … and stay awhile!
Greetings to our fine weathered friends.
We know you’ve been drying out like a prune beside the pool, so now is the time to get ready for fall and look your best.
First things first…
The sun is still going to shine (and hopefully not be 100 degrees outside)
We still urge you to apply sun block with at least an SPF 30. A daily topical antioxidant is also a good idea. This will scavenge the free radicals that are generated when UV rays penetrate the sun block. ISS has a multitude of these products including: PrevageMD, SkinMedica Vitamin C complex, and SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic.
How the sun damages your skin
UVA and UVB rays absorbed from the sun actually damage the DNA of the skin cells. This damage makes the skin cells dysfunctional. The dysfunctional cells do not behave properly and collagen and elastin are destroyed (these are supportive structures in the skin.) The top layer of skin can become thinner. The top layer of skin also loses its ability to slough off dead layers effectively and pigmentation changes occur.
How about those who have received sun damage?
Hydrate your skin by drinking lots of water. Apply a good moisturizer if your skin is dry. Facial massage is helpful and is therapeutic as well as relaxing. Cleanse your skin with a gentle cleanser. Massage the skin using a light textured oil or cream.
Get the dry and damaged cells off your skin with a medical microdermabrasion. This procedure will help your skin look cleaner and brighter. The microdermabrasion helps to remove dead skin. This procedure is performed using a diamond-tipped wand which actually scrapes off dead cells leaving the healthy skin underneath. It is followed by application of a topical antioxidant. The microdermabrasion promotes absorption of the antioxidant. Microdermabrasion can be used anywhere on the body.
Improve skin health with a retinoid product
Prescription Vitamin A products can help normalize the damaged cells in sun-damaged skin. Retin-A plumps up the cells in the top layer of skin, promotes collagen and elastin production and increases cell turnover.
Getting rid of the brown spots
Photorejuvenation removes brown spots using BBL (BroadBand light.) BBL energy allows us to precisely treat fine wrinkles and age/sun spots. The procedure involves using light energy to gently heat up the upper layers of your skin. The heat absorbed by the targeted areas will stimulate your skin cells to generate new collagen. The photothermal energy will also target unwanted melanin responsible for pigmented lesions. The treatment will be tailored to match your skin’s condition. Get rid of the sun spots on your face and neck! Brown spots can even be taken off your hands, arms, and legs too. You may need 2 to 4 treatments at 4 week intervals to produce the desired results. This is a non-invasive and gentle procedure with virtually no down-time. In most cases you will be able to return to work, apply makeup, and resume most of your daily activities the same or next day.
For persons with a lot of pigmentation, we may choose to use a substance called ALA. It is a drug which photosensitizes the skin to help remove unwanted pigment.
Get your spots off and look better!
